Our Design Process

A thorough design plan with Truscapes

Here at Truscapes, we know the dream you have for your landscape matters. But it can be hard to bring that dream to life without a well-designed action plan.
Having a clear plan will not only define the scope of work clearly for both parties, but to also ensure your expectations are met.
It’s time to put our thinking caps on!

1. Introduction

Features & Function

We’ll start out with a phone conversation to ensure we truly understand your project and whether we’re the right fit for you.

Once we’ve become acquainted, we’ll either invite you into our showroom for our “Be At Home Experience” or we’ll meet you at your space.

This is the fun part. We’ll take a deep dive into understanding exactly how you imagine using your new outdoor space. Your wants and desires as well as any problems you are wanting to solve.  We take into account your family and how you currently use the space as well as explore your grand ideas.

At this time we can give you an indication of how much you should budget for your project.

2. Onsite/Showroom Meeting

Concept Sketches

The first step is for us to either visit you in your space, or especially in the case of a new home build, we’ll invite you into our showroom for our ‘Be at home’ experience, to review the site plans and explore your ideas.

We’ll take a deep dive into your priorities and needs, review your ideas and by the end of the meeting we’ll have a rough sketch and plan.

Our team will take the time to really understand your space, your lifestyle, your family and how you want to use this space, not just today but for years to come. We want to ensure your space is exactly what you imagined.

3. Project Overview & Estimate

The finishing touches of design

After our initial meeting we’ll send you through an email proposal with a summary of what we’ve captured and an estimate of the budget required to complete the project.

The whole process to this point is complimentary. We want to make sure we’re the right fit and have the same vision for your space before we make a formal agreement.

From here we can adjust the plan to add or remove features depending on your budget.

If the proposed direction and budget works for you, we can then move to the design stage.

4. Landscape Masterplan

Your space comes to life

This is one of the most exciting parts of the design process. Building on the concepts from the initial sketches, we’ll bring your new space to life. We can do everything from a 2D scaled design to an unbelievably realistic 3D render or fly through.

Our design fees start at $1,500 for a new home and $2,500 for an existing property renovation allowing for a fully scaled 2D plan that includes all the important features of your project like plants, structures, pools, walkways and more. You could also opt for our add on services where our talented designers can include 3D renders and realistic fly throughs of your space so you can be fully immersed before moving forward.

This is your chance to see your space for the first time. Textures so realistic you could touch them… Shadows, sunlight, and plants that come alive on the page. This presentation will see your two dimensional ideas become real and leap off the page.

Our 3D images and full fly through videos allow you to experience it as if you were really there.

We ensure that the important architectural elements of your home are represented, such as the roofline, doors and windows that are unique to your home to make it as real as possible.

Our expert design team are even able to render these images to show you what your space will look like at different times of day…. See your glistening pool at sunset, or the sun through the trees and spilling onto the deck at sunrise.

This stage gives you an opportunity to make any final tweaks before we move onto final presentation.

5. Final Presentation

Plans & specs for everyone

Once we have received your final tweaks and we’ve nailed down our material selection, we’ll get to work on the final plans.

The final plan is like a set of directions for our team. While we have the beautiful realistic representation in the 3D renders, these final plans are focused on ensuring our build team knows exactly what they need to do to complete your project.

These plans also allow us to properly cost out your build. This set of 2D plans will clearly illustrate the spaces and their dimensions and enable our team to understand the vision for the space in a more technical way.

The plan typically includes a site plan, hardscaping plan, planting plan, lighting plan and any other important information like elevated structures or specialty items that need to be clearly explained to the tradesmen. It is essentially the manual for your project.

Kingsholme Project

How it started

We were initially engaged to design an un-used space around the pool and alfresco area.  The space had a lot of potential but the clients were unsure how to best utilise the space.

Site meeting

We spent time with the clients and found they were social butterflies who loved to entertain.  We suggested the idea of a fire pit area incorporating a pizza oven and bbq to ensure no one was missing out on the fun.  Herbs were planted around the perimeter for ease of access and to inspire the inner chef.

Our process

We sent through an initial concept for feedback which developed into what you see here.  This was approved for construction and completed just in time for winter.

Our clients were so happy with the result we were engaged to redesign their full acre property which is being staged down into construction projects as we speak.
